Adoption Forms

Feel free to download our adoption forms: CAT or DOG and bring it with you when you come to adopt.

The process is simple; We have an open conversational process, you come and visit with the pet you are interested in, we will talk with you about the pet and if its a good match and the pet is spay/neutered you can take them home that day. If the pet is not spayed or neutered then the pet will still go home with you that day, but we will schedule their spay/neuter appointment for our next available transport day to the spay/neuter clinic and you will pick it up the same day. Please bring with you a photo ID and you are welcome to bring in your dog to do an introduction with your new pet.

We have dedicated volunteers and staff who can help you choose the right match for your family just ask for assistance and let us know what your needs are and we can help you find your next friend.

You can live in any county or city to adopt and we have friendly adoption policies and guidelines that allows for outdoor cats and dogs if we feel the needs of the pet and family are both met.

Placing an animal on ‘hold’: The Lynchburg Humane Society wants your adoption experience to be as pleasant and as stress-free as possible which is why we allow potential adopters to place holds on animals so that they can take their time making adoption decisions, introducing family members and other pets, and researching breed traits. Holds may be placed over the phone or in person, and in the case of a “tie”, the individual physically visiting the shelter and the animal will be awarded the first hold on the pet. Adoption holds may only be placed during business hours by speaking with a team member and paying the hold fee.

1st hold: $25
2nd hold: $15

Hold fees are non-refundable and are not applied towards the adoption fee.
